Tennessee Hairstylist Violently Kidnaps Customer When He Can’t Pay Her
A Tennessee man who was having trouble getting cash to pay for hairstyling services soon found himself dealing with a much bigger problem. Murfreesboro Police say 19-year-old Makayla Brown and several men accompanied the customer to multiple locations before he was robbed at gunpoint and dragged into an apartment.
Brown was arrested October 1 and faces charges of especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. Police announced her arrest several days later as investigators continued working the case.
According to police, the 23-year-old victim encountered problems while attempting to withdraw money from an ATM to pay Brown for hairstyling services. Brown and several men then entered his vehicle and accompanied him to different locations as he continued trying unsuccessfully to get the money.
According to the victim’s account to investigators, the situation eventually escalated well beyond an unpaid hairstyling bill. Police say the man told them he was robbed at gunpoint before his phone and car keys were taken and he was dragged into an apartment on St. Andrews Drive.

Despite having his phone and car keys taken, the victim eventually managed to get out of the apartment. Police say he escaped by jumping from the apartment balcony.
The man then ran to a nearby store, where he was able to call police. The department did not specify the height of the balcony or state whether the man suffered any injuries during his escape.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and members of the department’s Special Operations Unit later executed a warrant at the apartment. During the search, police say investigators recovered two firearms along with the victim’s car keys.
Police Say More Arrests Could Be Coming
Brown remained in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center when Murfreesboro Police announced the arrest. Her bond was set at $40,000, and her General Sessions Court hearing was scheduled for December 17.
The police department said its investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests could follow. Although several men were described as accompanying Brown and the victim, the department’s announcement did not identify them or specify what investigators believe each person did during the incident.
Guessing Headlights was unable to locate a public search function through the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center that could provide additional records concerning Brown’s custody or charges. We reached out to request additional information by email, but until those records are provided, the details released by Murfreesboro Police remain the basis for the publicly available information about her arrest.
