Homeowner Goes to Reddit for Help After Their Kitchen Sink Fell Out
Homeowners know that owning a property comes with a lot of potential risks. That’s because things can (and do) go wrong around the house all the time. And while some things are inevitable (like needing a new roof), others are a little more surprising.
One homeowner recently ran into exactly that kind of surprise and took the issue to Reddit. Redditor pandayonce shared a series of photos in the Homebuilding subreddit, asking people for help. “Had this sink installed 2 years ago with new cabinets and counters. It randomly dropped overnight—luckily not with a full sink of dishes or water,” the Redditor wrote before saying that the same person who installed it is coming out to take a look.
“Was this a legit way to mount an undermount sink? I’m not seeing anything other than the wires and adhesive,” they captioned the photos. “Do I need to be worried about my bathroom sinks dropping and breaking?”
It sounds like the Redditors were almost immediately able to diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, it sounds like it’s a pretty common problem, which will likely have a lot of people checking on their undermount sinks after seeing what Reddit had to say about the issue.
The Sink May Have Been Incorrectly Mounted

According to many people in the comments, the initial install was likely unfinished. “I’m not familiar with strapping it from the bottom like that,” one commenter wrote. “I’ve always seen a bunch of retainer clips on the underside of the counter overlapping onto the ridge of the undermount sink. It looks like the install was incomplete.”
Another person said that the OP should double-check the plumber’s work after they finished to make sure the job was done correctly this time. “Ask him to show you the permanent support before he reseals it,” they wrote. “Also have the drain connections checked after it’s back in place. That drop may have pulled on the plumbing even if nothing is leaking yet.”
The Sink Could Be an Expensive Fix
If the OP does need a new sink or repair, the costs could really add up. According to Consumer Affairs, the average cost of a plumber is between $50 and $200 per hour. And while the price does vary based on the type of sink they are working with, undermount sink installations typically fall in the middle of the road, costing between $90 and $3,000.
Of course, the OP may not need to pay that full install price, especially if the original plumber comes out to fix the issue.
