A 12K Immersive Dome Will Bring Shrek’s Swamp to New Levels
If you’ve watched Shrek more times than you can count, you’ll soon have a new and exciting way to see it. Cosm is bringing the original 2001 movie to its huge 12K+ LED domes.
Cosm announced Shrek in Shared Reality on Sept. 17. The new experience is being made in partnership with Universal Film, DreamWorks Animation, and visual effects studio Reel FX.
Cosm will play the same Shrek movie you know and love, but places like Shrek’s Swamp, Duloc’s Arena, and Dragon’s Keep will fill the dome around the regular movie screen for a more immersive experience.
Tickets will go on sale this fall for Cosm locations in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, and Detroit. Exact dates and prices have not been announced yet.
The Original Movie Isn’t Changing

Cosm says Shrek will still play in its original 16:9 format. However, new visuals will appear around the movie and change depending on what is happening on the screen.
So while Shrek and Donkey are on the main screen, the rest of the dome could look like the swamp or another location from the movie, making you feel like you’re in the film too.
‘Shrek’ Is a First for Cosm
This is the first animated movie Cosm has turned into one of its Shared Reality experiences. The company has already done several regular movies, including The Matrix and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
NBCUniversal says Shrek is also the first movie in a new multi-film deal between Universal Film and Cosm.
There Will Be Swamp-Inspired Drinks Too
Cosm is also developing a Shrek-themed menu. The company says it will include food along with swamp-inspired cocktails and mocktails.
You can already sign up for presale access if you want to know when tickets become available. For now, Cosm hasn’t said when the first Shrek shows will begin showing.
